Katy Webster Katy was born in North Yorkshire, and has lived in Wales for ten years. She gained a degree from Oxford University before taking up painting, and graduated from North Wales School of Art & Design, Glyndŵr University with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art in 2009.
Artist Statement My work is inspired by landscape and history. I am fascinated by human marks on the land, and how they are covered and revealed by processes such as weathering and archaeology. My painting process reflects this; many layers are added and removed, marks are hidden and rediscovered. The paintings develop intuitively, informed by memories of atmosphere, light and weather experienced in the landscape. Eventually, like the land, they become surfaces that contain time and memories; surfaces with their own history.
